Overview

Nii-Adu African Bukateria, tucked away on Lancaster Avenue in Philadelphia, offers a genuine taste of West African cuisine that stands out in the city’s vibrant culinary scene. This intimate African restaurant specializes in rich, comforting dishes such as Jollof Rice, Egusi and Spinach, Banku, and the beloved Waakye—a rice and beans combination served with a hot, spicy pepper sauce that leaves a lasting impression.

The menu showcases traditional mainstays that reflect authentic flavors and cultural heritage. Jollof Rice here is a vibrant, well-seasoned dish that captures the essence of West African cooking, while Egusi soup—made with ground melon seeds—and greens like Ewudu and bitter leaf provide a hearty, soulful experience. Beans paired with fried plantain round out the list, offering both balance and depth, appealing to those seeking comfort food with a twist.

Patrons consistently highlight not only the well-crafted food but also the warm, family-oriented atmosphere. The owner’s attentiveness and genuine hospitality create a welcoming space that extends beyond just dining. One customer noted the care taken to warn about the spiciness of certain dishes, a small but meaningful gesture that reflects a thoughtful dining experience.

While the interior might benefit from a refresh, the authentic taste and the personable service truly define the character of Nii-Adu. It’s a spot ideal for locals craving traditional Nigerian and Ghanaian flavors or newcomers eager to explore African cuisine in a relaxed setting. Whether you’re stopping by for a fulfilling lunch or a cozy family dinner, Nii-Adu African Bukateria promises bold flavors served with warmth and heart.

The food here was very good. The owner is super nice and was adamant about warning me of the spice. I'm jamaican and it did not bother me at all. The inside could use an update, but the food is "bussin." I got the jollof rice and lamb.
